Artist statement.

My paintings develop out of different ideas and concerns, all based on the uniqueness of visuality. In some cases, my paintings arise out of collections of images I have accumulated over the years, images that coalesce into specific visual narratives. In other cases, my paintings are deliberate and purposeful constructions, created independently out of a particular idea. And in yet other cases, my paintings are singular instances that nevertheless speak to a larger conversation that I have with painting. Throughout my work, I strive to evoke personality, curiosity and originality in the relationship between the artwork and the viewer. My aim is for a poetry that is best described visually. To this end, painting for me is a manner of stitching together and making present that grand elusive image -- that unique pleasure of the visible -- that we sometimes have the pleasure of experiencing. Painting, for me, is a vocation; my paintings have been my greatest challenge and provided my greatest rewards. When a paining is successful, I feel a solid tangible contentment -- serene fulfillment -- that I hope is conveyed to the viewer.
